Mickey ears are always a popular accessory for any Disney vacation, but now character headbands are the latest trend hitting the parks, and Walt Disney World is the only place in the country to get them.
The customizable headwear took off after debuting at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. They briefly made an appearance earlier this year at Pixar Fest at Disneyland Resort in California.
Since then, they’ve been popping up all over social media, but getting your hands on them hasn’t been easy.
Until now.
Earlier this month the store Disney Ever After in Disney Springs reopened with a reimagined look − one that included the sought-after character headbands. Here are details on how to get them.
You start with a basic, one-size-fits-all black headband that costs $9.99. Then comes the fun part – picking the characters.
There are 12 different plush character heads to choose from, each costing $11.99. They are secured onto the headband with a sturdy Velcro strap, which helps keep them in place.
The cost of one headband and two characters is about the same price as Mickey ears, which usually start at $34.99.
If headgear isn’t your thing, the character heads can be used to decorate other items. Some guests have been known to put the characters on everything from strollers to bag straps to Magicbands and more.
Tina Chiu, a Central Florida influencer who focuses in Disney, got three of the plush characters when a friend brought them home for her from Disneyland in California. She visited the Disney Ever After store in Disney Springs the weekend it reopened to buy the remaining nine.
“They’re undeniably cute, but what makes them even better is how customizable and fun they are,” Chiu said. “I’ve been obsessed with the adorable merch at Asian parks, especially those build-your-own headbands, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard they were coming to the U.S. Disney parks. It’s a fun and creative way for Disney fans to showcase their favorite characters.”
No word from Disney on when, or even if, more characters will be released.
“I really hope they expand the options soon because Pluto and Goofy are sorely missed,” Chiu said.
Disney Ever After is located in Disney Springs, which means you don’t need a park ticket to visit the store.
Parking also is free (something not easy to come by at Disney World). The store is closest to the Lime Parking Garage.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11: 30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
